Canon Unveils New Telephoto Zoom Lens for Beginners
The budget friendly RF75-300mm f/4-5.6 provides extra reach for full-frame and APS-C camera users

RF75-300mm f/4-5.6 and EOS R100
HO CHI MINH CITY, 30 April 2025 — Canon today announced the RF75-300mm f/4-5.6, a new RF mount telephoto zoom lens. Compact and lightweight, the new lens provides longer reach and accessibility for novices. The RF75-300mm f/4-5.6 is also Canon’s lightest RF mount full-frame telephoto zoom lens offering, weighing at approximately 507 g, which is about the same as a 500 ml water bottle. Measuring around 14.6 cm long, the RF75-300mm f/4-5.6 forms an under-1 kg setup when combined with APS-C cameras like the EOS R100, EOS R50, or even the full-frame EOS R8. In addition to its compactness, the RF75-300mm f/4-5.6 is also designed to be affordable.
Imasaka Daido, CEO, Canon Marketing Vietnam said, “Canon is committed to providing quality lenses that cater to various users and their needs. With the RF75-300mm f/4-5.6, more users will have access to a telephoto lens’ reach and with it, the unique expressive capabilities that open a world of possibilities. The RF75-300mm f/4-5.6 is also a portable body that is easy to carry around, allowing users to gain more mileage out of it and at a comfortable price point.”
On a full-frame camera, the lens offers a focal range of 75 to 300 mm (medium to true telephoto), which is ideal for photographing children’s sporting events, wildlife, outdoor portraits and close-ups of distant scenery. Users may also take advantage of the unique telephoto compression effect, which compresses the different layers of a scene to make them appear closer together. This effect is often used to emphasise patterns or give the impression of density. On an APS-C camera like the EOS R50 or EOS R10, or in 1.6x crop mode on a full-frame camera, the RF75-300mm f/4-5.6 offers an even more zoomed-in super telephoto field of view that is equivalent to 120 mm to 480 mm on a full-frame camera. This is beneficial for users who photograph birds from a distance away. Users can combine this with the lens’ semi-macro capabilities, in the form of a maximum magnification of 0.25x at the 300 mm end (0.4x when used on an APS-C camera), to capture clear, high-quality close-ups of small subjects.
The lens’ long focal range also easily creates beautiful bokeh effects that separate subjects from the background and give scenes a greater sense of depth and dimensionality. This is especially evident when combined with the lens’ variable maximum aperture that starts at a moderately wide f/4 on the 75 mm wide end and ends at a decent f/5.6 at the 300 mm telephoto end.
